To qualify for Social Security Income (SSI), you must prove that you do not have more than $2,000 in resources. The income limit for SSI is $733 per month for an individual. For Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), you need to have an earnings record with 40 credits, 20 of which must have been earned in the last 10 years. You must be found disabled before your Date Last Insured (DLI) to be eligible for SSDI. To be considered "disabled," a worker must not be able to perform the same work they did before and have a disability that is expected to last for at least one year or result in death.
